Journal 5: Final Week
Today we had our final Drama lesson before the test on Wednesday. Thankfully as a group we managed to decide all the lighting and music to suit each scene except for the final scene's music which has proved difficult to choose. We have been looking for a song without lyrics which builds up but the only ones we have found are cheery. This does not suit the scene as it is a fairly intense and scary scene, where Annabelle is 'possessed' by the demons. At Lunch before the lesson, Nina, Annabelle, Kate, Laura and I taught the final scene choreography to Thea and Dodie as they could not make our Friday practice. For the final scene we are trying to make the noise and movements as overwhelming as possible so that when it stops the audience is on the edge of their seats waiting for whats going to happen as we, the demons, slowly move in on Annabelle, following Kate's countdown as the devil/ host. We are all very excited to see how the play turns out, though we could not find all the lighting we imagined, we still managed to find colours that fit with scenes. For example; Greeny/ yellow at the start as it made the room look unnatural but not too scary, then a switch in colours to something a bit brighter with Annabelle's unveiling to match her going from darkness, under the sheet, to light and a blackout when the blindfold is tied around her head as Dodie and Laura creep through the dark to their spots. In our minds it would be so dark that when the lights came on it would look like they appeared out of nowhere but unfortunately the windows let in too much light through the cracks of the blinds. We have managed to make do though, using as many techniques - lighting, sounds, movements, costumes, sets, etc -to create the atmosphere of this dream world gone bad.
